Situation:
Further drive sales on an already extremely popular Liberty product line
Task:
I'd written a basic configurator that allowed users to select the adapters they wanted and it would return the matching configuration or create a new on the fly. The adapter rings were already selling like crazy. Liberty had a patent on them but knew the life would be limited. How could we capitalize and further expand the products reach?
Action:
Liberty sells through a network of authorized dealers, not direct to consumers. I would rework the configurator making it more intuitive and even more astetically pleasing. I'd also design it to be easily "framed" into dealer web sites. To allow them to embed our engine in their site.
Result:
I wrote a new responsive interface for the configurator. Incorporatorated new features such as a customizable, digitally printed tag that cab be designed online through a canvas-based design interface I wrote with easeljs. Also added the capability to attach the adapter ring to an HDMI cable and have them shipped complete.
I created a configurator admin interface that allowed authorized users to create and API key and copy an embed code snippet. The domain is registered in the admin interface and associated with the API key
The user simply pastes the small code snippet into their site, The API key is verified against the referring domain and if it is matched, an iframe is generated to display the configurator in their site.
The ability for users to select just the adapters they want and create custom combinations on the fly has played a big role in the huge success of this product.
